For a portable working copy, start with the host port and the data you need to move. A 10Gbps USB drive can be a good fit for general projects, but it cannot reach its advertised ceiling through a slower cable or hub.

Start with the port and the job
Both products use a 10Gbps-class USB path, and both manufacturers publish speeds up to about 1,050MB/s. Those figures are sequential maximums measured under stated test conditions, not a guarantee for every file copy. Your computer, hub, cable, filesystem, workload, and thermal state all affect the result.
Use an SSD as a working copy only when another copy exists. For a travel workflow, keep the original card or internal copy until the external copy is checked, then maintain a separate backup. Encryption can protect a lost drive, but it cannot restore a deleted file.

The T7 Shield prioritizes environmental protection
Samsung's datasheet lists USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps), up to 1,050MB/s sequential read and 1,000MB/s sequential write, IP65 water and dust resistance, up to a 3m drop under controlled testing, AES-256 hardware encryption, and a three-year limited warranty. It also lists operation from 0°C to 60°C at the case temperature.
IP65 and the drop figure describe controlled tests, not permission to use the drive with a wet connector or treat it as indestructible. The water and dust notes exclude liquid and dust damage from warranty coverage. Pick it for a travel bag or field kit when those documented protections are relevant, then still protect the port.
The X9 Pro prioritizes size and capacity choice
Crucial's product flyer lists read and write speeds up to 1,050MB/s, capacities up to 4TB, USB-C plug-and-play operation, compatibility with Windows, Mac, Android, and more, Micron TLC NAND, IP55 water and dust resistance, and up to 2m drop protection. That makes it a useful candidate when capacity selection and a compact project drive matter more than the stronger T7 Shield rating.
IP55 is a different protection claim from IP65, and 2m is a different controlled drop claim from 3m. Treat these as selection inputs rather than a universal durability ranking. Verify the model capacity, included cable, and your host's USB mode at purchase.
