The labels describe different ways to control light
LG describes its OLED televisions as emitting light for each pixel. That architecture lets a pixel be driven independently of its neighbors, which is why OLED specifications and marketing emphasize black levels and contrast. This is a description of the panel architecture, not a promise that every OLED model has identical brightness, processing, viewing angle, or motion behavior.
Samsung describes Mini-LED, used in its Neo QLED televisions, as a backlight built from smaller LEDs with more precise control through local-dimming zones. A zone controls a group of the backlight behind the LCD layer. That can improve contrast and HDR control compared with a less granular backlight, but the exact number, behavior, and algorithm are model-specific.

Match the architecture to the room
Start with the room rather than a brightness headline. Watch the intended wall at the time you normally watch: daylight, lamps, reflections, and seating angle change the value of any display specification. Ask whether you mostly watch films at night, sports in a bright room, animated content, or mixed streaming where the source itself varies.
For Mini-LED, inspect scenes with dark backgrounds and bright objects, subtitles, star fields, and black bars. Local dimming operates in zones, so these scenes reveal how the exact set handles the boundary between a bright object and a dark area. Treat this as a test to perform, not as a claim that every Mini-LED set shows the same artifact.

Take static content seriously with OLED
OLED is not disqualified by an occasional game or news channel. It does deserve a usage check if the TV will show a static logo, ticker, dashboard, paused game, or menu for long periods. LG's support guidance says prolonged static images can cause image retention or burn-in and describes screen-saver, pixel-cleaning, and logo-brightness features on supported models. Sony likewise advises avoiding bright static images, menus, and logos displayed continuously or repeatedly on applicable OLED models.
The practical question is frequency and duration. If one household member leaves a news channel running all day or uses the panel as a fixed monitor, read the exact model's care settings and warranty terms before choosing OLED. If the content changes regularly, keep the protective features enabled and test the TV during the return window with the household's real pattern.

Compare a complete model, not a technology label
The display architecture does not settle the rest of the purchase. Compare the exact model's inputs, operating system support, HDR formats, picture controls, speakers, stand, remote, power behavior, warranty, and firmware policy.
